Jimmie Johnson Takes the Lead in PointsKansas City, KS — Four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson used a runner-up finish Sunday at Kansas Speedway to move to the top of Chase for the Sprint Cup points standings driving his Purolator-equipped Chevrolet Impala. Johnson, driving for the powerful Hendrick Motorsports team, overcame an ill-handling car and a spin in practice to start the race in the 27th position before coming back in second. He left the oval track Sunday in the points lead with seven races remaining for the third straight year. He now leads the Chase by eight points over Denny Hamlin, who drives a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing and occupies the second position in points.
