Jimmie Johnson Scores a Sprint Cup Win in California and Takes the Chase Lead in a Hendrick Chevy on Purolator Filters

Fontana, CA - Jimmie Johnson took over the points lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase for the Championship playoff Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Southern California when he won the Pepsi 500 driving the Purolator-equipped Lowe's Chevrolet Impala SS. Johnson led 126 of the 250-laps and held off his runner-up Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon to win his second Chase race and fifth event of the '09 season. Johnson now has a 12-point lead in the final 10-race Chase over another Hendrick Chevy teammate Mark Martin also driving on Purolator filters.
