Expands Nascar Series Points Lead for Hendrick Team on Purolator
Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon ended the longest winless drought of his career Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway when he won the Samsung 500 driving a Purolator-equipped Chevrolet Impala. For Gordon, a veteran driver for Hendrick Motorsports, it was the first Cup win in 48 races and expanded his series lead to 167 points. Fast pit stop work by his Hendrick crew allowed Gordon to take the lead and register his 82nd career Cup victory. Jimmie Johnson, the three-time defending series champion and Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports teammate, was the runner-up by less than a second in Texas and is now in the number two spot in series points.
