Dale Earnhardt Takes Pole for NASCAR Daytona 500 Opener; With Jeff Gordon Second Hendrick Motorsports 1-2 on Purolator

Purolator-equipped Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets swept the front row in qualifying for this weekend's 53rd running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Daytona 500 Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., NASCAR's most popular driver, led the way taking the pole position start with a lap of 186.089-mph in the #88 Hendrick Chevy entry. It will be Earnhardt. Jr.'s 10th career pole position start. Veteran driver and four-time Cup champion, Jeff Gordon, was the second fastest qualifier at 185.966-mph in his familiar #24 Chevrolet for the Hendrick team. Both Hendrick Chevys were running on Purolator filters. Purolator is looking for their sixth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship this season following five straight crowns by Jimmie Johnson in the Lowe's Chevrolet from the Hendrick Motosport team.
